Conference Information
Craig N. Ackley, President of the Behavioral Science Education
and Consultation Services, Inc., in Spotsylvania, Virginia, will help participants
shift their thinking about intimate partner abuse violence and sexual assault
assessments. Craig is a retired law enforcement officer of 26 years, the
last 21 as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
He retired from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBIs National
Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC), FBI Academy, Quantico,
VA, where he provided behavioral support and training in violent crime
matters to federal, state, local, and foreign law enforcement and prosecutorial
agencies.
Historically, emphasis has been placed on the presence of risk factors,
such as prior physical or psychological abuse, threatening behavior, substance
use, and access to weapons. While these and other traditional risk factors
are critical to evaluate, they are only part of the equation when trying
to understand the dynamics of any given offense. It is equally important
to consider the personality traits and characteristics of the specific
offender.
This training is designed to provide familiarity with various personality
issues involved in intimate partner violence, particularly as they relate
to lethality. The motivations and subsequent behaviors in sexual offenses
are also as diverse as the offenders themselves. Information will be shared
to help participants better understand personality issues as they relate
to characteristics and motivations of sexual offenders.
We have limited space for this training, so be sure
to get
yourself and your co-workers registered soon.
