Below you will find 2 documents, the Standards Synthesis and the Monitoring Synthesis.

The standards synthesis uses the Michigan standards as the organizational center and the other states have been broken apart to put the closest corresponding material in that section.

This  is a color coded document, Michigan is black, Fla is blue, Illinois is red and Texas is green.

The same color coding is used in the monitoring synthesis, but there is no Michigan section. This document separates the monitoring info we have from each of the states.

BISC-MI has been moving towards creating a monitoring tool over the past several years and we are excited that we are at a point in our development to bring this into fruition. If you would like to learn more about BISC-MI, please visit us on the web at http://www.biscmi.org/.

In Michigan, a Governor appointed task force that included practitioners, judges, probation, domestic violence programs, and state departments developed Standards for batterer intervention programs in 1998. The purpose for developing standards was to provide guidelines for ethical and accountable intervention systems that would protect victims and other family members; and establish a minimum level of respectful, humane, consistent, and appropriate intervention for persons convicted of a domestic violence related criminal charge. While our state standards have been in place for over eight years, no process is in place to certify intervention programs operating in Michigan. This series of community forums will provide an opportunity for interested individuals and agencies to provide input into the benefits of monitoring and what the process could look like.

All meetings are scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will include a light lunch. These forums have been scheduled on the following dates and locations:

1. What programs, agencies, individuals would benefit from BIP’s being monitored?
2. What would you, your profession or your community want from the monitoring process?
3. Who should do the monitoring (qualification, individuals or teams, affiliation peer or state, private)
4. What should the monitoring process look like (paper, electronic, on site, how long, who should have input, how should they have input, how much lead time.
5. What considerations should be taken into consideration in developing a monitoring process? (size location of program, communities served, cultural factors)
6. What will make this monitoring process helpful to existing or developing programs?
7. Assuming no state funding is available, how should monitoring be funded?
8. What criteria should be used to determine compliance and what should happen if programs do not meet compliance?

We want your input on these Focus Questions even if you are not able to attend a community group.
